1. Common low windowsills are about 0.5 meters from the ground. Adding a 0.4-meter railing or fence close to the inner wall will certainly meet the required safety standards. If the windowsill is too large, such as a bay window, children often stand on it to look out, and users must also stand on the windowsill to open the window. In this case, the railing itself should be at least 0.9 meters high. The net height of the railing should not be less than 1.05 meters, and for mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings, the net height should not be less than 1.1 meters.
2. When the height above ground is less than 24 meters, the railing height should not be less than 1.05 meters. When the height above ground is 24 meters or more (including mid-rise and high-rise residences), the railing height should not be less than 1.10 meters. The height of the railing should be calculated vertically from the floor or roof surface to the top of the handrail. If there is a foothold at the bottom with a width greater than or equal to 0.22 meters and a height less than or equal to 0.45 meters, the height should be calculated from the top of the foothold.
3. For higher floors, the height should not exceed 1.2 meters. The railing height is calculated vertically from the floor where it is installed on the balcony to the top of the handrail. If there is a foothold at the bottom of the railing with a height less than 0.5 meters, the height should be calculated from the top of the foothold. Specific rules are usually specified in the design drawings, and the minimum height is generally 1.0 meter.
